Overview

Step-by-step guide...

STEP ONE

Set-up & Prep

We recommend wearing a button-up shirt when colouring (makes everything a whole lot easier at the end).

Put on your gloves and cape, then starting with dry combed hair part it down the middle into two sections.

STEP TWO

Mix

Take your darker colour and using your kitchen scales mix;

  • 50g of colour
  • 75g of the developer

If you need stronger grey coverage (up to 90%) mix 50g of colour with 50g of the developer.

STEP THREE

Roots

1. Scoop a small amount of colour of your brush and start by painting the colour directly on to your part.

2. After that section is fully covered, take the next section by using the pointy end of your brush and thumb. Pinch the hair above the brush and lift.

3. Continue colouring your roots in small 2cm sections parallel to your part, work your way down one side of your head.

4. Paint in an upward motion around the ear to avoid getting colour on your skin. Repeat on the other side of your head, doing the same parting and painting application.

5. Repeat the same action for the back and around the neck. Lift the sections up to the top of your head and paint in an upward motion to avoid colour on your skin.

Now your roots are coloured, bring the colour down to the mid-lengths of your hair.

6. Start with the same section and side of the head you started the roots, now take 4cm sections. Place your hand under the section and paint the darker colour from your roots and stop at the middle of your hair.

Second colour application

This is the second colour application process.

STEP FOUR

Mix, again

Rinse your first colour out of your mixing bowl with water until clean and dry. Take your lighter colour and using your kitchen scales mix,

  • 50g of the lighter colour
  • 75g of the developer

1. Go back to the same section and side of the head you started on for the roots, take your 4cm section again.

2. Place your hand under the section and paint the lighter colour onto the mid lengths and ends of your hair using your hand as a support ‘backing’ for the brush.

3. With both hands, milk the sections from where the lighter colour was painted on to ensure it spreads evenly.

4. Set your timer for 20 minutes or for however long your personalised instructions recommend.

Wash your colour out...

Wash your hair by double shampooing your roots and conditioning from roots to ends.

How do I apply at home?

It can be daunting starting to colour your hair at home, but don’t worry, we are here to help you every step of the way. Check out our How-to page for tips and tricks on how to apply your hair colour at home.

How long does the colour last?

MIIROKO hair colour lasts 4-6 weeks depending on your hair type. If you find your hair fades quickly we recommend setting the colour subscription to every 4 weeks so that you are covered.

Is it a permanent hair colour?

Our colours are technically a demi-permanent, which means they are in-between a semi-permanent and permanent colour. It takes to the hair like a permanent and will start fading at the 4-6 week mark like a semi-permanent.
