Let's clear something up. Colouring your hair at home doesn't have to mean compromising on the health of your hair.
We know the reputation home hair colour has earned. Harsh chemicals, dry and brittle hair, unpredictable results and that unmistakable chemical smell.
But not all hair colour is created equal. And the formula you choose can make all the difference.
At MIIROKO, we believe beautiful colour shouldn't come at the expense of your hair's health. That's why we've created a gentle, salon-quality hair colour designed to care for your hair and scalp while delivering beautiful, natural-looking results.
Not all hair colour works the same way
When it comes to colouring your hair, understanding the difference between permanent and demi-permanent colour is important.
Traditional permanent hair dyes use alkalising ingredients to help open the hair cuticle, allowing colour to develop within the hair. While effective, repeated colouring and stronger formulations can contribute to dryness and damage.
MIIROKO takes a different approach.
Our demi-permanent formula is designed to enhance your existing shade, blend greys and refresh faded colour without the need for dramatic colour changes.
It's a more considered approach to colouring, helping you achieve beautiful, natural-looking results while minimising unnecessary stress on your hair.
A gentler formula, by design
We believe what you leave out of your hair colour is just as important as what you put in.
That's why MIIROKO has been carefully formulated without ammonia, PPD and resorcinol, ingredients that can contribute to irritation or sensitivity in some people.
But what really sets our formula apart is the considered balance of ingredients used to develop your colour.
Less than 2% ethanolamine
Ethanolamine is an alkalising ingredient that helps the colouring process. While some conventional hair colours use concentrations of 10% or more, MIIROKO is formulated with less than 2%.
3% hydrogen peroxide developer
MIIROKO uses a 3% hydrogen peroxide developer, compared with the 6–9% concentrations used in some conventional permanent hair colours.
By using a lower-strength developer and carefully considered colour formulation, MIIROKO is designed to refresh and enhance your natural shade without the aggressive lightening associated with stronger colouring processes.
The result? Beautiful, glossy colour with a gentler approach to your hair.
Eight active ingredients. More care in every colour.
Here's where MIIROKO really shines.
Our hair colour isn't just designed to give you beautiful results. It's also enriched with eight active conditioning ingredients, each carefully selected to help nourish, condition and protect your hair throughout the colouring process.
Because we believe your hair should feel just as beautiful as it looks.
01. Green tea extract — Smoothes
Rich in naturally occurring antioxidants, green tea extract helps support smoother-feeling hair and a more polished finish by helping to smooth the hair cuticle.
02. Sweet almond oil — Rehydrates
Known for its nourishing and emollient properties, sweet almond oil helps soften and replenish moisture in the hair, leaving it feeling smoother and more manageable.
03. Aloe vera extract — Soothes
Known for its soothing properties, aloe vera helps condition and care for the hair and scalp, supporting a more comfortable colouring experience.
04. A2 ceramide — Strengthens
Ceramides help support the hair's protective barrier, reducing moisture loss and helping hair feel stronger, smoother and more resilient.
05. Jojoba oil — Protects
A lightweight conditioning oil that helps soften the hair, improve manageability and protect against moisture loss, leaving strands feeling nourished without unnecessary heaviness.
06. Bisabolol — Calms
A soothing ingredient commonly used in skincare, bisabolol is known for its calming properties and helps support scalp comfort.
07. Vanilla extract — Adds shine
Vanilla extract contributes to the formula's conditioning care, helping support a soft, glossy-looking finish.
08. Wheat amino acids — Conditions
Amino acids help condition the hair fibre, improving softness and manageability for hair that feels smoother and healthier-looking.
Together, these eight ingredients bring an added layer of care to every colour application.
Rather than focusing solely on changing your shade, MIIROKO combines beautiful colour with conditioning ingredients that help your hair look and feel its best.
Created by a hairdresser, for beautiful hair at home
MIIROKO was founded by former hairdresser Claire Saito, who believed women deserved a better alternative to conventional home hair colour.
One that delivered the beautiful results you'd expect from a salon, without the need for unnecessarily strong formulas or complicated applications.
Drawing on her professional experience, Claire developed MIIROKO to make colouring your hair at home feel easier, more considered and more achievable.
Gentler doesn't have to mean compromising on results.
MIIROKO delivers up to 90% grey coverage, helping blend unwanted greys, refresh faded colour and enhance your natural shade with a beautiful, glossy finish.
And because great results are about more than just the formula, our Starter Kit includes reusable, salon-quality tools designed to make every application easier, less messy and more consistent.
No complicated techniques. No unnecessary colour changes. Just beautiful hair, made simple.
What makes MIIROKO different from traditional box dye?
Traditional box dyes are often designed to achieve a wide range of colour changes, including permanent results and significant lightening.
But what if you don't want to dramatically change your hair?
What if you simply want to cover a few greys, refresh your colour or bring back the shine?
That's exactly what MIIROKO was created for.
Our demi-permanent formula focuses on enhancing the hair you already have, rather than completely transforming it.
With a lower-strength developer, carefully selected colouring ingredients and eight active conditioning ingredients, MIIROKO offers a more considered alternative to conventional permanent home hair colour.
It's not about changing your hair. It's about making the most of it.
Is it safe to colour your hair at home?
For many people, colouring their hair at home can be a safe and convenient option, provided they're using the right products and following the instructions carefully.
However, not every colour transformation is suited to home application.
If you're looking to dramatically lighten your hair, make a significant colour change or achieve a complex technique like foils, it's best to leave it to a professional.
But for everyday colour maintenance, such as blending greys, refreshing your natural shade or toning pre-lightened hair, MIIROKO makes it easier to achieve salon-quality results from home.
Always do an allergy test
Even with a gentler formula, it's important to remember that any hair colour can cause an allergic reaction, including products formulated without ammonia or PPD.
That's why it's important to complete an allergy alert test 48 hours before every colour application, following the instructions provided with your MIIROKO products.
If you experience redness, itching, burning or irritation, rinse immediately and do not proceed with colouring. Seek medical advice before using hair colour again.
Remember, a successful allergy test doesn't completely eliminate the possibility of a future reaction, so it's important to take this precaution every time.
So, does colouring your hair at home damage your hair?
It doesn't have to.
While all oxidative hair colour involves a chemical process, choosing a gentler formulation and using it correctly can help minimise unnecessary damage.
At MIIROKO, we've taken a more considered approach to home hair colour, combining a lower-strength developer, carefully selected ingredients and eight active conditioning ingredients to help care for your hair while you colour.
Because beautiful hair colour shouldn't be about compromising what you already have.
It should be about enhancing it.
Your hair, just better.
