Permanent vs Semi-permanent, which is right for you?

With so many different options when it comes to hair colour, it’s hard to know which is the best one for you. Here we break down what are the technical and practical differences between the different types, so you can know which one is the best for you.

Permanent hair colour

Colour is mixed with hydrogen peroxide (developer).

Lasts: Forever… well technically the colour will fade and change over time, but essentially the pigments from will never fully leave your hair. So you will have to grow/cut it out.

Grey coverage: 100%  – be carefull with this though, as 100% grey coverage means 100% of your natural hair colour has been changed – this causes that strong growout line as your natural colour (and greys)  start to come back. We recommend 80% grey coverage as it softens the line and is not so obivious of when you last coloured your hair.

Who is it for?

  • People who need to lighten their hair more than 1 shade.
  • People who hate seeing a single grey on their head.
  • People who are happy to colour their hair every 4-6 weeks.

Demi-permanent hair colour

Colour is mixed with hydrogen peroxide (developer).

Lasts: 4-6 weeks… colour will fade and change over time, but never wash out completely.

Grey coverage: 70-90%  – this is very soft grey coverage. Our MIIROKO colour is a demi-permanent so can give you up to 90% grey coverage.

Who is it for?

  • People who need to lighten their hair only 1 shade or go darker.
  • People who want a natural looking blend for their greys.

Semi-permanent hair colour

Colour is not mixed with hydrogen peroxide (developer).

Lasts: max 6-8 shampoos… colour will fade very quickly and not really be noticable after 2-3 weeks.

Grey coverage: 0-30%  – Would not recommend this for covering greys.

Who is it for?

  • People who only need to go darker.
  • People who don’t need to cover greys.

Temporary hair colour

Colour is not mixed with hydrogen peroxide (developer).

Lasts: 1-2 shampoos… This colour works similar to make-up, it simply sits on the outside of the hair shaft and washes off very easily.

Grey coverage: 0%

Who is it for?

  • People who want colour for only 1-2 days.
